QQube FAQ

Product Information

What is the difference between a connector and the QQube Data Warehouse?

A connector uses the Intuit SDK (Software Development Kit) to display individual transactions and lists, and make them look like tables. You then have to reverse-engineer how the data works inside of QuickBooks.

The QQube Data Warehouse transforms the raw data from the Intuit SDK into data models containing hundreds of measures not even considered in a raw connector.

QQube automatically handles the QuickBooks logic and SDK gaps, which means that you don't have to worry about tables, relationships, or deal with data dictionaries.

Why isn't there a direct connection to QuickBooks?

Intuit provides no direct connection to the QuickBooks database and instead uses an SDK (Software Development Kit) which was introduced in 2001, and extracts data in XML (hierarchal text) format.

All developers must use the SDK - even connectors

How long does it take to synch my data?

The 23 year old Intuit SDK (Software Development Kit) is the only way to extract data from QuickBooks and can be slow - especially on larger files.

The first synch - depending upon the size of the file - can take anywhere from 20 minutes for a 250 Meg file, to 6 hours or more for a 2 Gig file.

Subsequent synchs only take several minutes. And to refresh your Excel spreadsheet from QQube only takes seconds.

Can QQube change my QuickBooks data?

QQube is a read only product, and is not capable of writing to QuickBooks.

What is a QQube data model?

A data model is a complete cube of information about a particular QuickBooks subject area, such as Job Costing Details, or Inventory Management, and is designed to minimize the data requirements, yet maximize the reporting potential.

Do I need to connect one data model to another?

Not unless you are trying to do something that QuickBooks does not do, or store in the actual database.

Each data model is complete unto itself. For instance, Inventory contains all of the sales, purchasing, and general ledger detail.

Do I need to manually connect my application to QQube?

There are no manual connection strings necessary. We make it simple by installing the same two DSNs on everybody's machine so that you can create something on your desktop, and then send it to another QQube user, and they can just open and refresh.

If you have an application to connect to QQube you can use the DSN as listed here: Overview of Implementing QQube for QuickBooks Desktop

Is QQube difficult to setup and learn?

We provide step-by-step guides to install and configure QQube to run with QuickBooks. Once your QuickBooks data is loaded into QQube, all you have to do is open up one of the over 200 examples, and start creating reports.

The only skills needed to use QQube is to be somewhat proficient with the application you are using such as Excel, or Power BI. You simply drag and drop a field from the list provided to you in the application.

Do I have access to the 5,700 DAX formulas included for PowerPivot and Power BI?

Yes. We hired the best in the world (Marco Russo) to help produce our DAX methodology and have made that methodology available to anybody who uses our product.

I am advanced user or developer. Can I get to the raw tables?

QQube makes available a series of views that you can take advantage of in any of our starter examples. How the data is transformed from the Intuit SDK is proprietary, and is the lifeline that saves you weeks and months of figuring out how everything is put together, and how to overcome all of the pitfalls and shortcomings that is inherent in the Intuit SDK

A good example would be COGS. You don't have to figure out how QuickBooks calculates that field, or uses it in reports.

Why should I renew every year?

First, we post bug fixes, and improvements several times a year. Second, Intuit can make changes to its SDK (Software Development Kit from year to year, and we often have to accommodate those changes for the product to work with your QuickBooks.
