Getting Started with Power Pivot

Overview

There are three advantages of PowerPivot over a regular pivot table:

1. The ability to filter information as a column (called Measures)
2. Increased capacity - efficiently and quickly manages millions of rows
3. The ability to add other data sources such as spreadsheets, etc.

QQube adds even more advantages:

• Power Query is the underlying Data Engine
• We added over 5,700 DAX Formulas
• Models are the same for Power Pivot as they are for Power BI
• Saves you hundreds of man-hours

Unlike regular Excel Pivot Tables where you invoke the QQube Add-In, the only way to get started with PowerPivot is to open up one of the examples in the Configuration Tool and refresh to get your data.

Start with an Example

Open up the QQube Configuration Tool and highlight Microsoft PowerPivot under the Examples section.  You should see a list of PowerPivot examples - at least one for each data model.

Step One

Check the synch logs to ensure successful and accurate data extraction.

Step Two

Open up the example from the QQube Configuration Tool.  It will open to a page with general instructions for:

• Refreshing your data
• Viewing the underlying data source (Power Query)
• Creating a new pivot table
• Brief explanation of measure types (calculated fields).

Step Three

Click on one of the tabs (Report Example).  Go to the Data Menu Item, Choose Refresh All to refresh the data for all in the tabs in the workbook.

NOTE: Depending upon the size of your data set in QQube, it might take several minutes to initially refresh your data.

Step Four

Select from the hundreds of available fields shown in the PivotTable Fields listing.  You are now 100% Excel

The Select Assistant is Grayed Out.
The Excel Add-In is not used in the Power Pivot Data Models.
