What the Error Means
Error 80040427 comes directly from the Intuit Software Development Kit. QuickBooks reports that the installed copy of QuickBooks is not registered or cannot validate its registration.
Possible Causes
| Possible Cause | What Happened |
|---|---|
| QuickBooks is not registered | The QuickBooks trial period ended, or the QuickBooks client installed for a Multi-User server implementation was never registered. |
| QuickBooks cannot validate its license | A server firewall, port, or network setting prevents QuickBooks from reaching the service required to validate its license. |
Resolution
Complete these steps in order.
1. Register QuickBooks
Open QuickBooks under the Windows user where the QQube synchronization runs and complete the QuickBooks registration process.
In a Multi-User implementation, confirm that the QuickBooks client installed in the dedicated synchronization session is registered.
2. Repair QuickBooks License or Connectivity Problems
If QuickBooks is already registered, run the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
Also confirm that the server firewall and network settings allow QuickBooks to validate its license.
Expected Result
QuickBooks is registered, can validate its license, and the QQube synchronization completes without Error 80040427.
