What the Error Means

Error 80040440 comes directly from the Intuit Software Development Kit. QuickBooks will not provide sensitive company-file information because one or more QuickBooks users do not meet the required complex-password rules.

The affected password may belong to the QuickBooks user assigned to QQube, the QuickBooks Administrator, or another required company-file user.

Resolution

Complete these steps in order.

1. Update the Required QuickBooks Passwords

  1. Log in to the Windows user where QQube was installed.
  2. Open the affected QuickBooks company file as the QuickBooks Administrator.
  3. Confirm that the Administrator and all other required QuickBooks users have compliant passwords.
  4. Pay particular attention to the QuickBooks user assigned to QQube for automatic login.

Each password must contain at least eight characters, one number, and one uppercase letter.

2. Correct a QuickBooks Pro or Premier False Positive

In some QuickBooks Pro or Premier files, the assigned QQube user may appear to have a compliant password but QuickBooks still requires that user to change it.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks using the specific QuickBooks user assigned to QQube.
  2. When QuickBooks prompts for a password change, create a new password that meets the complex-password requirements.
  3. Save the new password and sign out of QuickBooks.
  4. Run the QQube synchronization again.

Review Create Connection Users for the required QuickBooks user setup.

Expected Result

All required QuickBooks users have compliant passwords, the QQube connection user can sign in without another password-change prompt, and the synchronization completes without Error 80040440.
