Shared Memory Connection Attempt Error

Modified on Sat, 29 Jun at 3:04 AM

Overview

You open up Excel, invoke the Excel Add-In for the first time, and receive this message:

QQube SharedMemory Error

Or you attempt to refresh an Excel PowerPivot from the QQube Configuration Tool:

Power Pivot Shared Memory Error

This message can also occur when trying to use the Microsoft Access examples from the Configuration Tool.

Cause

There are two methods of communicating with the QQube database: (1) Memory Pools, or (2) TCP/IP.  There are certain applications for which Memory Pools do not work, and there are occasions where Excel is not happy with this arrangement.

There is no negligible effect on usability regardless of option.

Resolution

SINGLE-USER

Check the "Remote Connection" under Advanced Options>Database.

MULTI-USER (CLIENT)

Shared Memory is disabled by default on the Client User and is not necessary to disable on the server.
