Overview
Pre-Install Requirements
- Review the current requirements
- Download the latest version of QQube
- Pre-Install Server Configuration Requirements:
- Dedicated server user for the synch process called [qqubesynch] - initially with administrative/machine rights for installation - with regular rights thereafter.
- Set the time out property to "never". If the [qqubesynch] account gets logged out of, the synch can't run. Microsoft Instructions for setting the time out property to "never".
- Client version of QuickBooks must be installed and registered under the [qqubesynch] dedicated server user.
- Be prepared to leave QuickBooks open to NO company file under the [qqubesynch] dedicated server user.
- Create a script to automatically re-login to the dedicated server user [qqubesynch], upon a server reboot.
The dedicated server user [qqubesynch] is used for synching only. Nobody should log into the [qqubesynch] user to run reports; only to add/remove QuickBooks files and check on issues that involve communication with QuickBooks and QQube.
Installation Procedure
***Multi-User SERVER Install***
Login to the dedicated server user [qqubeysnch] you created above to install the Multi-User server portion. You must have temporary full admin/machine rights.
DO NOT:
- install the multi-user server portion at the administrative console
- install under a regular user
- invoke the "change user /Install"
- use the right click "Run as Administrator" option
The Multi-User server portion installs three major components
- QQube Database
- QQube Synchronizer
- QQube Configuration Tool
It will always default to - and install - the multi-user Server option. A single-user is not allowed to be installed on a server, as a dedicated server user exists to synch (auto or manual) without interrupting QuickBooks users.
This is the default installation folder and should not be changed.
The following window will begin the file copy and component installation.

***Multi-User CLIENT Install***
There is no separate client installation - only the creation of two shortcuts
Login to the administrative console
STEP 1. Place Shortcuts on the Client's Desktop
- Create shortcuts on the desktops of the users for which you wish to have QQube access for the QQube Configuration Tool and Excel.VSTO
- C:\Program Files (x86)\CLEARIFY\QQube Tool\QQube Configuration Tool.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\CLEARIFY\QQube Tool\QQube Add-In For Excel\QQube Add-In For Excel.vsto
The QQube Configuration Tool Shortcut Properties (Details Tab) should show that the folder path is for the specific user:
The QQube Configuration Tool for the client will allow the user access to the following:
- Add/Remove available data models to be synched
- Remotely command the synchronizer to run within the [qqubesynch] user.
- View synch logs
- Clear QQube data and reload
- Use the built-in examples
The client will NOT be able to:
- Install or upgrade
- Activate renewal subscriptions
- Add/Remove Companies
- Manage the database engine or location
- Troubleshoot synch issues such as modal windows, QB updates, etc.
The .VSTO will execute the installation of the Excel Add-In. They need to have Excel closed when performing this process, and Group Policies need to allow Excel COM Add-Ins.
When you login as one of the checked QQube users you should note that the QQube Configuration Tool does not have Synchronizer and Database Manager options.
STEP 2. Shortcuts for Server Reboots
There will be times that the server will reboot for scheduled - or unscheduled - reasons.
- Create a script to ensure that the [qqubesynch] user logs in automatically after a reboot. Remember that without the session being logged in, QuickBooks client can't run - and QQube can't talk to QuickBooks.
- Create a shortcut for the Synchronizer
- FROM C:\Program Files (x86)\CLEARIFY\QQube Tool\QQube Synchronizer.exe
- TO C:\Users\[qqubesynch]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
- Create a shortcut for QuickBooks (QBW32.EXE) in the same startup folder. Remember that you always want QB open to NO company file in this environment.
