Multi-User Client Cannot See Server

Modified on Sat, 25 Jul at 11:56 PM

Overview

During a QQube Multi-User Client installation, the installer should automatically display the QQube database engine running on your network server.

If the QQube Engine Name and server address are blank, the client computer cannot discover the QQube database server:

What this means

The QQube installer uses a SQL Anywhere utility to locate the database server through UDP. Discovery can fail when the service is stopped, the server name resolves incorrectly, network traffic is blocked, or the client is on a different subnet.

Troubleshoot in This Order

1. Confirm the QQube Database Service Is Running

Log in to the dedicated QQube synchronization user on the server and open the QQube Configuration Tool.

Go to Advanced Options > Database > Show More.

  • If Start Database Service is grayed out, the service is already running.
  • If Start Database Service is available, exit the QQube Synchronizer from the Windows system tray, then start the database service.

2. Confirm the Server Name Resolves Correctly

On the client computer, open Command Prompt and ping the server name.

Confirm that the returned IP address matches the QQube server. If it does not, your DNS or network-name configuration must be corrected by your IT administrator.

3. Test the Workstation Firewall

The workstation firewall may be blocking QQube database discovery on port 2638.

Temporarily disable the workstation firewall for testing. In the installer, select Back, then Next to repeat the server search.

Re-enable the firewall after testing and configure the necessary exception if the server is then detected.

4. Test the Server Firewall

If the workstation test does not resolve the issue, the server firewall may be blocking discovery traffic or port 2638.

Temporarily disable the server firewall or the rule that blocks the required network traffic, then repeat the installer search from the client computer.

5. Determine Whether the Client Is on a Different Subnet

Automatic database discovery may not work when the client computer and QQube server are on different network subnets.

In this situation, bypass the automatic search during installation and enter the server information manually after installation.

Bypass Automatic Server Discovery

Use only after completing the checks above

This procedure allows installation to continue without locating the QQube database server automatically. You must know the correct database engine name, server IP address, and port.

1. Cancel the Current Installation

Exit the installer before running the appropriate override command.

2. Restart the Installer with the Correct Override

Workstation client: Open Command Prompt using Run as administrator and run the installer with OVERRIDENODBSERVER=1.

Server acting as a client: Run the installer with OVERRIDESERVERCLIENT=1.

In these examples, qqubeinstall.exe was saved in the Downloads folder and the command was run from that folder.

3. Complete the Installation

The Next button will now be available even though no database server was discovered. Continue through the remaining installer prompts.

4. Enter the Server Information Manually

After installation, open the QQube Configuration Tool. When QQube reports that it cannot find the database server, the manual server configuration window will appear.

Enter the database engine name exactly as displayed in the QQube Configuration Tool on the server. Then enter the server IP address and port.

Expected Result

The QQube Multi-User Client should connect to the database server after the database service is running and the required network path is available.

If the manual connection also fails, verify the engine name, IP address, port, database service, and firewall configuration before continuing.
