Overview of the QuickBooks General Ledger Data Model

The General Ledger Detail data model contains all posting details and does not include any non-posting transactions.


There are several features available in this Analytic that are not available in any accounting system:

  • Linked Transactions - Using a Master linking number (and type), you can view the original invoice on top, and any other applied transactions, e.g. receive payment, journal entries right beneath it.
  • Enhanced Descriptors - The description for the summary account of a receive payment will show "Applied to Invoice #71049 (2016-12-31)".  A Bill Payment Check will show "Applied to Bill #78654 (2017-01-08)"
  • Columns for Actual, Budget, Forecast are all available, side by side.  The date for budgets and forecast is always considered as the first date of the period .e.g. 1/1/2018, or 2/1/2018
  • 52/53 Tax Year - Use the 52/53 tax year dimension in conjunction with the General Ledger to produce a detailed Profit and Loss, or even detailed Balance Sheet
